Privacy Policy — Furnest

Furnest is built around a simple idea: your pets' records are yours. We designed the app so that it does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your personal information with us. This policy explains exactly what that means.

The short version

We don't collect any data that identifies you. Furnest has no accounts, no advertising, and no tracking. We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count anonymous app events (for example, "a pet was added"). It is not linked to you and is never used for advertising. We don't track you. We don't sell anything.
Your pets' records and photos stay on your device — and, only if you choose, in your own private iCloud.
AI document scanning uses Apple Intelligence: Apple's Private Cloud Compute on iOS 27 (which keeps nothing), or the on-device model. Only if you opt in — by signing in with ChatGPT or with your own API key — is the scanned document's text sent to ChatGPT or Claude.
We have no servers that store your content, because we never receive it.

Information we collect

We don't collect any personal information about you. Furnest does not ask you to create an account, does not require a login, and does not gather names, email addresses, location, contacts, or any content you create. The only thing Furnest sends is the anonymous usage data described below. It cannot be used to identify you.

Anonymous analytics (TelemetryDeck)

Furnest uses TelemetryDeck to understand which features are used, so we can improve the app. TelemetryDeck receives:

Product interaction: coarse app events such as "pet added", "record logged", "reminder set", or "paywall shown", with non-personal details like a plan name. Never a pet's name, species, a record, a note, a date, or anything you type.
A device identifier: a salted, hashed identifier generated for this install, used only to count unique installs. It cannot be used to identify you and is not shared for advertising.

Where your content lives

Everything you create in Furnest — pet profiles, vaccines, vet visits, medications, weight, food, parasite prevention, dental, grooming, notes, scanned document images, and reminders — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you enable iCloud sync, your content syncs through your personal iCloud (CloudKit) container. This data lives in your private iCloud account. We cannot see it, access it, or retrieve it, and it is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can turn iCloud sync off at any time.

AI document scanning

Furnest Pro's AI document scanning lets you turn a photo of a vet card or receipt into a structured record. You choose one of these providers:

Apple Intelligence — Private Cloud Compute (default on iOS 27 and later). Furnest reads the text on your device, then sends only that text to Apple's Private Cloud Compute, a larger Apple model. Apple designed Private Cloud Compute so that your data is used only for your request, isn't stored, and isn't accessible to Apple or to us. If it isn't available (for example, you're offline), Furnest uses the on-device model instead. You can pick either one in Settings.
Apple Intelligence — on-device. Runs entirely on your device using Apple's Foundation Models framework. No data leaves your device. This is what Furnest uses on iOS 26.
Sign in with ChatGPT (OpenAI). If you sign in with your ChatGPT account, only the extracted text is sent to OpenAI using your account, and OpenAI's terms and privacy policy for your ChatGPT plan apply. Furnest shows a notice first that this option isn't officially supported by OpenAI. Your sign-in tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device, and you can sign out at any time in Settings.
Claude (Anthropic). If you select Claude and enter your own Anthropic API key, Furnest performs OCR on-device (the image never leaves your phone) and sends only the extracted text to api.anthropic.com for parsing. Governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
ChatGPT with your own OpenAI API key. Same flow, sending the OCR text to api.openai.com under your own OpenAI API key. Governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

Your API keys and sign-in tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain, never on our servers (we don't operate any). It only travels with requests to the provider you selected. You can switch providers or disable AI parsing in Settings.

Purchases

Furnest is free to download with one pet. "Furnest Pro" is an optional in-app purchase (monthly, yearly, or lifetime). All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Furnest never sees or stores your payment details. Purchase and restore information is handled by Apple's StoreKit and is subject to Apple's terms and privacy policy.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, Furnest schedules local notifications on your device for upcoming pet care items. These never leave your device and do not pass through any push server.

Third parties

Furnest includes no third-party advertising networks and no tracking libraries. It uses one third-party service for the anonymous analytics described above: TelemetryDeck. The only other optional third parties are the AI providers described above, used solely when you opt in with your own key. We do not sell data, and we do not share personal information with third parties.

Children's privacy

Furnest does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The anonymous usage data described above cannot identify a person. It is rated 4+ and is safe for users of all ages.

Data retention and deletion

Because your content stays on your device (and, optionally, in your own iCloud), you are in complete control. To delete your data: remove records within the app, delete the app, or turn off and delete its iCloud data from your Apple account settings. There is no "delete my account" because there is no account. Anonymous analytics signals are kept by TelemetryDeck in aggregate form and cannot be tied back to you, so there is no personal record for us to look up or delete.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised version at this URL. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
